Is it Possible to Receive a Posthumous Military Ranking?

My father recently passed away, and served his lifetime in the military. He was a commander of an Air Refueler wing and was promoted as an Asst. Adj. General for our state. Unfortunately, do to “politics” he was forced into early Retirement. His paperwork for getting his first star and a rush “order” for a second star was “lost” due to post 9/11 business. Would it be possible for me to petition local Senators or House Representatives to have my Fathers stars awarded to him Posthumously? Thank you in advance.

It is possible for a Member of Congress to get a Special Bill in Relief passed to cover such a posthumous promotion. That’s what it is called. The most recent one which comes to memory does not concern a posthumous promotion however. It was the Special Bill passed to permit Lieutenant Colonel Oliver Lawrence North Jr. to continue receiving his military pension despite being convicted of a Federal felony as a consequence of the Iran-Contra scandal in the Reagan administration.
